Gil Phipps
Responsibilities:
Gil Phipps is Senior Vice President of Global Customer Solutions at Advantage, overseeing Creative, Product Development, Package Design, Retail Media Networks and Shopper Marketing.
Experience:
Prior to joining Advantage, Gil was the CMO at Sprouts Farmers Market, where he led branding, marketing, promotional strategy, Public Relations, Customer Service and Private Brands. Gil rebranded and repositioned the Sprouts Enterprise, evolving the customer-facing brand positioning, logo, and go-to-market strategy. This resulted in more than doubling Unaided and Aided Awareness, Brand Favorability, Purchase Intent, and "Sells Highest Quality Products" within six months.
Prior to Sprouts, Gil was Kroger’s Vice President of Branding + Marketing + Our Brands. In this role, he evolved the Kroger Brand positioning, marketing strategy, logo, and visual identity. Gil also evolved the Kroger Company in private label branding, strategy, innovation and product development for an Our Brands portfolio, rapidly growing sales from $15 billion in excess of $28 billion. This period of unprecedented Our Brands growth was fueled by advances in brand building, the introduction of new brands, new product development and reformulations, with an eye on emerging food trends and
innovation.
In 2015, Supermarket News recognized Gil as one of the Top Disruptors in the industry in 2018, Store Brands Magazine awarded Gil the "Private Brands Prowess Award" as Retail Executive of the Year. Store Brands Magazine also named Kroger Retailer of the Year in 2018.
Prior to Kroger, he was at H-E-B, where he was the leader of the Own Brands Department, with oversight of branding strategy, brand development, brand growth, innovation, product development and packaging design and structure. Prior to his twelve years at H-E-B, Gil was a CPG Brand Manager and product development specialist at Hormel Foods, Michael Angelo’s and Guiltless Gourmet. He also has over seven years of grocery retail store management experience.
Education:
Gil has a bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin.
Service:
He served seven years on the board of directors and serves as chairman of the Marketing Board for Cincinnati ArtsWave.
