Howland launched his career doing award-winning creative work on Madison Avenue. In 1979 he co-founded Juran Institute, Inc. (pioneers in continuous quality improvement) and built the Juran brand into the most prestigious quality consultancy in the world.
As a principal and co-owner at King-Casey, Howland serves a portfolio of clients in the retail and restaurant fields, and is a key proponent of King-Casey’s COZI® (Customer Operating Zone Improvement) strategic discipline and process. King-Casey is one of the premiere retail consulting and design firms in the U.S. For more than half a century, the firm has been helping companies build competitive brands by dramatically improving the customer experience. King-Casey provides a complete range of services including assessment, research, branding, visual merchandising, retail prototype design, and rollout. Howland has led food service optimization projects for many of the world’s leading restaurant brands, including Starbucks, McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, and many others in the US and abroad.
Book author, lecturer and noted authority, Howland has been a featured speaker at hundreds of conferences, workshops, universities and special events. Traveling to over 40 countries, he has delivered addresses on all continents (with the exception of Antarctica). Howland has published hundreds of professional papers, authored four books, and participated in television and radio broadcasts all around the world. He has been a featured guest on CNN, NBC, PBS, The Discovery Channel, Sirius Radio, and others. Collectively, Howland’s publications have been translated into 16 languages. Howland is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Westport School of Music, board member emeritus for MetroPool, and was Vice Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Fairfield University School of Engineering.
