Yesway and Weigel’s have been honored with the Fuels Innovator of the Year Awards, presented by Fuels Market News Magazine.

The awards will be presented during the NACS Show education session “Learning From the Leading Fuel Retailers of the Year” on Wednesday, October 9, at 8:00 a.m. in Pavilion 9. The event will include a discussion period where attendees can interact with executive leadership from both companies and ask how they maximize their fuels and charging operations.

The convenience retailers were selected for the awards based on overall fuel excellence, technology, and operational efficiency. The awards were determined by combining the criteria used in the annual OPIS/FMN Fuel Leaders issue that ranks retailers with a core focus on fueling efficiency, plus examining how retailers innovate with fuel products, their use of technology, and strategies for EV charging.

“Efficiency in operations, especially fuels, has long been critical, and that’s especially the case today,” said Keith Reid, FMN editor. “We are at a point where there are numerous opportunities with various renewable and biofuels and EV charging, but at the same time there seem to be more questions than answers on how to move forward.”

Fort Worth, Texas-based Yesway won the award for 100 or more sites and operates 435 locations in Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. These include the Allsup’s convenience store brand. On the fuels front, the company offers traditional gasolines, E85, E0, and EV charging.

Its diesel fuel is domestically sourced from reliable U.S. suppliers, and biofuel is blended in some areas along with specialized winter formulations.

Headquartered in Powell, Tennessee, Weigel’s won the award for retailers with 99 or fewer locations. Founded in 1931, it operates 75 convenience stores and Broadacre Dairy Inc., which processes milk, tea, juices, and eggnog for its convenience stores, as well as its own bakery, Red Barn Foods.

On the fuels front, Weigel’s offers a range of fuel options including E0, E15, DEF at the pump, and two diesel offerings.
